StreetPilot III kit shown on a ST-1300. This mounting uses items "GRAHEX, GRANA, GRAD, 065-0039". You have to locate the threaded rod and nuts and washers on your own. Sometimes we have threaded rod in stock you have to ask.

  • Synopsis

A threaded rod is inserted thru the hollow steering stem. The hole in the steering stem is about 20mm diameter. Item GRAHEX which has internal threads 1/4-20 is attached to the upper end of this rod.

    1) Remove the silver cover from the steering top-clamp assembly.
    2) Install a GRAHEX using washers and a long threaded rod thru the steering stem to the bottom.
    3) Remove the Honda badge then drill a hole in the silver cover. Save the badge.
    4) Reinstall the cover with just the RAM ball showing.

Remove the screws, and the silver plastic cover.

Here's how it looks with the cover removed.

Assemble the GRAHEX onto a 1/4"-20 threaded rod which is long enough to go all the way thru the motorcycle steering stem. Use a succession of washers to increase the diameter. It might be a good idea to use more washers for more stiffness when tightening. There needs to be another set of washers and a nut at the bottom (not shown in the picture). Sorry, we don't know the length of the threaded rod but it is likely about 12 inches or less.

Assemble the GRAHEX and washers and threaded rod assembly onto the steering stem.

Remove the HONDA badge by carefully prying it up.

Suggestion: tape the badge to the inside the cover so you can find it when the time comes to cover the hole.

Drill a hole here. Apparently the center of the lump is remarkably close to the center of the steering stem.

Re-assemble the cover onto the GRAHEX and adjust the ball height with washers, then re-attach the silver cover onto the motorcycle.

It's now ready to add your RAM mounting system. The clamp shown here is the GRANA. THe GRANA attaches to the bottom of the Touratech mount with item GRAD. The Touratech mount shown is 065-0039 but locking mount 065-0056 will fit equally.

GRAHEX can be located on the parts page. GPS mounts can be located on the Mounts page.
