The GPSmap176 has the same PhaseTrac12 operating system as the other modern Garmins, including WAAS capability. It has a basemap of North America which includes all major highways and most secondary arterials. For more detail, you can load datacards with your PC using mapSource software. The 176 is like a III+ that's "ALL SCREEN". Also the processor is much faster. Even thought the screen is twice the size, and the resolution has twice the pixels, the redraw is instant. There is no waiting to move the map around. In addition, the GPSmap176 uses datacards, so map memory is almost unlimited. You will need to buy a datacard and software to add maps to the 176. The 176 can use all of the datacards (8Mb to 128Mb) and all the software. For more info see the GPS comparison page. This GPS runs direcctly on 12vDC. For dirtbikes with 12vAC alternator output (no battery or small NiCad battery) use DC converter 030-0021. Do not try to power the GPS on 12vAC. |

The view from the side. The 176 is shown in the photo with the "grsp3s" suction cup mount (available separately). The GPSIII is shown with the "gr3s" suction cup mount. |
