BMW R1150GS, proper perspective

"Tom, don't you ever ask to borrow my motorcycle again!"

--Photo; by Helge Pedersen about 15 minutes before sundown. A flash freezes the motorcycle surrounded by a blur of motion. Westfalia Camper in the background is not "driving with the lid up".

--Ear-shattering bellow! by Clement Salvadori, shortly following the aforementioned photo session. Mr. Salvadori was overreacting ---- the GS was owned by BMW of North America (who could probably hear him from New Jersey).
The refined Mr. Salvadori (who carries wine and wine glasses in his sidebags) felt that since no BMW dealer had even seen the 1150 yet, that "wheelieing the new GS was akin to seeing a beautiful woman and giving her a wedgie". Mr. Pedersen voted for the wedgie.

--Wheelie; by Tom Myers (CycoActive and Touratech-USA). Normally found in the saddle of an XR400, Tom places the R1150GS in a precarious stance. The verdict on the new 1150:
"The most refined motorcycle I have ever ridden. Twist that thang and next thing you know you're in Utah."

6/15/2002 update......Tom has been having a great time riding the shop R1150GS on nasty roads....See the GPS ride for 2002.

Click here to see some R1100GS riders having a little fun in the mountains of Washington.

Clement Salvadori operates the R1150GS in a more accepted fashion. Clement is a moto-journalist who writes for Rider Magazine and others.

Clement has a reputation for wining and dining motorcycles. However, he's already blackened the pipes on this new 1150. (looks like a keeper!).

Another on/off-road ride in the Cascade mountains of Washington. Farther, tougher, more trail, less road, more nights, and 700 miles.
Oregon Backcountry Discovery Route.

A 950 mile gravel-road ride across Oregon (South to North) from California to Washington. Mostly gravel roads, minimal pavement, five nights. Heavy GPS use.
(route is "GS-able" by strong riders but the sagebrush will beat up anything hanging out on the side.)
